Grounds: The Devonshire Arms Spa Hotel is set within the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s Bolton Abbey Estate on 30,000 acres of the Yorkshale Dales National Park. This is a dog-friendly hotel with lots of walking to be done!

Nearby: This estate is close to Skipton, Harrogate, Ilkley and lots of pretty villages.

Style & character: Built in the 17th century as a Yorkshire coaching inn, it still retains  much of it’s original character. The hotel is separated in an old and new wing with a traditional style. You can expect lots of artwork from Chatsworth’s Devonshire Collection on the walls (known as one of the finest private art collection in Europe).

Service and facilities: Smart service with plenty of helpful staff.

Hotel details: This hotel has 40 rooms available, some with four poster beds. The views are impressive overlooking river, dale and Italian box gardens. Bathrooms are generous with walk-in showers and in each room you can expect a spacious seating area, flat-screen TV with a DVD pay and satellite channels.

Food & drink:  The Burlington restaurant, one of five Yorkshire restaurants to be awarded a Michelin star, is considered one of Yorkshire’s finest restaurants. Head chef Adam Smith (formerly of the Ritz) uses lots of meat, fish, fruits and herbs. There is a slightly formal dress code required. Take advantage of the extensive wine list. For a more relaxed atmosphere, head to the hotel brasserie for standard fare like traditional Sunday roasts. You can also enjoy afternoon tea with a live piano player to accompany your experience.

About the Devonshire Arms Spa: This spa is in an ancient barn, adjacent to the main hotel. You will find four large therapy rooms, indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, relation space and lounge with views over the tennis courts.
