Grounds: The Gilpin Hotel, Lake House and spa are located on 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake.
Transport: Trains run from London to Oxenholme (under three hours) and the hotel offers a transfer service.
Style & character: This is a Georgian house that was built in 1901 and the hotel has a feel of glamorous boutique meeting country pile. There are bookshelves, stylish lamps and black-and white family photos in the drawing rooms.
Service & facilities: This is a truly five star experience. There is a professional and passionate team offering lasting memories for all guests. There is a warmth and friendliness balanced with extraordinary service. Nothing is overbearing and everyone smiles and says hello.
Hotel details: This hotel offers 31 rooms with an excellent range of suites, from the garden suites to those with their own mini spa.
The classic rooms include double beds, sofas and views over the moors. There are six large gauden suites located in an annexe off the main hotel that have private hot tubs.
The newer spa suites, located on the edge of the main hotel property, are perfect for a romantic getaway. The spa suites include your own hot tub, sauna, steam room and Sonos system. Also, floor to ceiling windows give you views across the fells.
There is also the option to stay in The Lake House, a six-bedroom property one mile down the road from the hotel on the edge of Knipe Tarn, a private lake surrounded by woodland. Guests are transported between locations.

Food & drink: There are three dining room options for you and your other half to try each night. This is a fine dining experience with zero pretentiousness. Dishes are seasonal and fresh. Try the venison or halibut. For breakfast indulge in porridge with cream!
About the Jetty Spa: This spa is located on the edge of the hotels private lake, Knipe Tarn. The spa consists of a series of wooden buildings all with a contemporary-rustic, Scandi sort of feel. There are two treatment rooms available which can be opened up and combined to create a private couples suite.
You and your other half can experience a ‘spa trail’ experience where you go from a private pool (indoors and heated) to a suite where you can choose from a range of treatments in front of the fire. There are fur throws over the massage beds and views across the lake. Enjoy afternoon tea in boathouse followed by champagne in the outdoor hot tub.
There are aromatherapy treatments available from a wooden cabin overlooking the water. You can try a hot stone massage, reflexology, facial, or soothing back, neck and shoulder massage.
