1. The Blue Lagoon

Fancy a dip in a geothermal spa? The Blue Lagoon in Iceland is just that: a man-made lagoon supplied by nearby geothermal water. Located in a lava field on the Rekyjanes Peninsula, it is known as one of the most popular attractions. Relax in the naturally heated spa waters for the day and enjoy the warmth.

2. Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Imagine a glacial lake made up of huge ice blocks breaking off a massive glacier and floating around a lagoon. As they drift out to sea, huge chunks of ice crumble into the water. This is what it is like at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon.

The lagoon originated from a receding glacier and is still expanding from melting ice today. The lagoon is known for its vivid colours – with bright blue water and white ice blocks. Also the contrast of icebergs on the black sand beach are striking. A photographer’s dream!

3. Kerid Crater Volcanic Lake

This volcanic lake in south Iceland is part of the well-known Golden Circle route. This 3,000 year old crater is known for having the most recognisable caldera that is still intact. You can walk down to the volcanic lake and around the top of the crater. The water is aquamarine in colour and the crater is made up of red volcanic rock. This creates an impressive setting for any visitor.

4. Vatnajökull National Park

Visiting Vatnajokull National Park feels like a trip to the top of the world. The Vatnajokull Glacier is Europe’s largest glacier offering panoramic views of white snow and mountains. Take a snowmobile tour, ski or ice trek with a guided tour!

5. Gullfoss Waterfall

Another popular attraction along the Golden Circle route, the Gollfoss waterfall is situated on the river Hvita and originates from the glacial lake Langjokull. The gorge is known as ‘golden falls’ because of the glacial sediment in the water which gives the falls a golden hue.

The Gullfoss Waterfall is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. You will find that the panoramic views of the giant gorges is an inspiring experience.
